Dr. Kristopher Edwards
DC, BHKin
Chiropractor and Clinic Owner
Dr. Edward’s love of athletics and education led him to McMaster University to pursue a degree in Kinesiology and a collegiate career as a football player. Early in his second season as a McMaster Marauder a misdiagnosed injury that required surgery ended any opportunity to play competitive CIS Collegiate Football.
A surgical consult, months too late, revealed that traditional surgical methods would be of little help. Through plenty of research and hard work Dr. Edwards was able to successfully rehabilitate his own ankle to a fully functional state.
Although he was always drawn to Health Care, this incident was motivation to pursue a career that could not only provide treatment, pain relief and rehabilitation of injuries
but also offered prevention and education as a primary focus. For Dr. Edwards, Chiropractic was the perfect fit.
Upon successfully completing an Honours Kinesiology Degree at McMaster University, Dr. Edwards was accepted into the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Dr. Edwards would spend the next four years studying, researching, and developing the skills required to be an ethical health care provider with a multidisciplinary focus.
Dr. Edwards enjoys treating patients with headaches, neck, back and extremity aches and pains. He also works with the WSIB to provide care for employees that have suffered work place injuries and along side auto insurers to return those suffering from car accidents back to pre injury status. There is also an emphasis on overall health and wellness and Dr. Edwards enjoys spending the time working towards reaching these goals with each and every one of his patients.
Dr. Edwards’ background in athletics has lead to a special interest in managing sports injuries and returning athletes safely and quickly back to play. He has treated various professional athletes through his clinical internship and in private practice. The needs of these athletes have ranged from specific sports injuries to prevention and performance optimization. Through Dr. Edwards’ university football experience he weighed in at 155 pounds. In order to compete at that weight- at the collegiate level- optimal training, diet, mental preparation, and discipline were needed. These attitudes and experiences are an asset, both on the field competing and in a clinical setting, rehabilitating his patient’s athletic injuries. Dr. Edwards has likely experienced first hand or seen as both a practitioner and an athlete the injury that you are suffering from. These experiences and a complete understanding of the athletic mindset allow for the motivation and support needed to allow you to recover and return to the sport you love.
Although Football took over, Dr. Edwards’ first love was hockey. Like all young Canadian hockey players he dreamed of playing goal for Team Canada. Although not on ice, the dream to represent our country on an international stage came true. Dr. Edwards was a member of the Canadian National In-line Hockey team and won the 1997 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Overall Dr. Edwards enjoys all sports on both recreational and competitive levels.
In his spare time, Dr. Edwards enjoys coaching various amateur football teams in the Durham region. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Dr. Patricia Riley and their three young boys: Lucas, Braedan, and Jayce. Together they enjoy family, friends, exercise, athletics, and of course Chiropractic.
